UKRAINE IS LISTENING

HOPE FOR MY COUNTRY

BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET

UKRAINE IS LISTENING

In the midst of a brutal civil war, faith and hope prove stronger than fear and even death.

I directed, wrote and edited “Ukraine is Listening” for FEBC. We filmed in the beautiful Odessa, Ukraine. It was October, which was quite cold, especially at 5am when we filmed the boat fishing scenes. All of our hands were numb by lunchtime and we were ready for some delicious borshch (soup) and varenyky (dumplings).

This film was a new concept for FEBC. For the first time, viewers got an inside look at how an actual FEBC broadcast in Ukraine touches peoples’ lives, right where they’re at, on whatever device they’re using to tune in. To achieve this, we used an actual FEBC radio broadcast that airs in Ukraine for the dialogue and no actors- just authentic Ukrainians going about their everyday routines. Special thanks to the talented broadcaster we used, Olesya Dmytriieva who speaks hope into this war-torn nation every day. And thanks to the incredible producers that made this film happen: Ethan Froelich, Victor Akterov, Sergey Burlaka and Annette Jasmine.

HOPE FOR MY COUNTRY

Edgard, a 21-year-old pastor in Nicaragua, shares, “People in my country are in deep need. They are living in darkness. They need to know what God says to them.”

Shooting this film in Nicaragua was one of my favorites. As I learned from my first international production in 2007, it’s always the people that make an experience unforgettable.

From the first pre-production meeting I knew that this crew was going to be strong. Ourproducers, to our American photographer and writer, it was the entire crew and everyone we interviewed that made this film incredible.
Starting with Edgard, who not only has an unwavering determination to give his people hope, he has the courage, passion and wisdom to give them the only source of true hope in any circimstance- the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET

Deep in the mountains of Indonesia are isolated villages that can’t be reached by anything but a motorcycle. But Jokko risks his life to take these villages a life-changing message.

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’”– Romans 10:14-15

In places like this, there are no stores, no running water, no electricity, and no churches.

“My people are an unreached people,” Jokko says, a member of a small, isolated village deep in the jungles of Indonesia. “We speak a tongue that many have never heard.”

Jokko left his village years ago to search for a better life, and after several weeks, he had found a place to live. But, he had also found something else, something far more valuable than he had ever known: the Gospel.

The only thing he wanted to do was to take the treasure he had found back to his home village. So, he traveled back to his village, telling his people about the Gospel and distributing radios, so they could tune in to FEBC Gospel broadcasts and grow in their faith.
